Why Smile?

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen you smile.
So my hope & prayer is that you know I care.

It may be such a simple thing.
But it shines like a brilliant diamond ring.

Our lives may be filled with ups & downs.
But that’s no reason to give up & frown.

Your smile crosses cultures so it’s universal.
If you’re tired that’s okay since it needs no rehearsal.

Some things grow in value little by little, day by day.
But a smile is lost forever if you don’t give it away.

Adults seem to smile less & less every year.
But children smile more often & are prone to good cheer.

If life seems so hard that it makes you feel sad.
A smile changes everything & will make you feel glad.

There’s no way to buy it or receive it by plea.
But a smile makes you richer even though it is free.

There are people who need them, we must be aware.
So smile at your neighbors let them know that you care.

Sometimes we’re like engines in need of some grease.
Your smile can touch others with joy, love, & peace.

It’s really so simple you don’t need a degree.
Your smile blesses others, especially me.

By BPK

I was inspired to write this very early on Wednesday morning the 24th of March, 2010 as I became aware in a profound way that the looks on people’s faces either increase the physical pain I am already battling & make me feel worse OR something as simple as a smile lifts my soul & encourages me to be filled with joy, love, & peace!

I am truly humbled that in the midst of my suffering physically for so many years that I was able to be an encouragement to a friend & sister-in-CHRIST who asked my permission to print this poem & frame it so that she could be encouraged on a daily basis!

I dedicate this poem to my sweet & precious friend Julita who is now without any more pain or suffering & loving every second of being in the presence of our LORD & SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST!

I miss you so much Julita & I hope & pray that the smiles you brought to the lives of your family & friends would continue to make this world a better place!

Life's A Journey!

Life is a journey & those who have communicated with me a least a couple of times know that I totally dig closing a message with:

Peace be your journey,

BPK

Why?

Every single one of us has had difficult to overwhelmingly impossible situations in our lives & the last decade plus has been extremely challenging to me as I have faced one health problem after another with many right on top of the previous.

Since a car accident almost 5 years ago, the pain throughout my body literally increases on a daily basis however the joy, love, & peace within me increases every moment.

How is that possible?

Well, I refuse to let my circumstances dictate my attitude & if I am able to encourage only one person each day, it is an amazing day for me!

"A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives." — Jackie Robinson

Why should I push through the pain of sitting at my computer to encourage many people who I have never met?

"Every man & woman is born into the world to do something unique & something distinctive & if he or she does not do it, it will never be done." — Dr. Benjamin Elijah Mays

Is the physical toll worth it to me?

"There are scores of people waiting for someone just like us to come along; people who will appreciate our compassion, our encouragement, who will need our unique talents. Someone who will live a happier life merely because we took the time to share what we had to give." — Leo Buscaglia

Why is writing so important to me?

"Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing." — Benjamin Franklin

I have heard many wonderful preachers & speakers in my lifetime but I am not one of them. However, I can communicate through the written word what I am unable to speak.

"The role of a writer is not to say what we can all say, but what we are unable to say."  Anaïs Nin

Many people have told me that I should write more & that I should get paid for it but I refuse to write anything that does not flow out of me because they are not just words to me. My writing is an expression of who I am & what I believe in.

"Better to write for yourself & have no public, than to write for the public & have no self." ― Cyril Connolly

If you do not want to be impacted emotionally, mentally, & spiritually by what you read, then you may as well stop reading right now but if you are already this far along, you may as well enjoy the ride!

"No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader." ― Robert Frost

I am extremely careful in what I write because even if no one ever reads my words, I know that I will reread what I have written as I am able to see where I have been, where I was at, & where I hoped to go.

"A writer is a person who cares what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth & freedom, & so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight. By using words well they strengthen their souls. Story-tellers & poets spend their lives learning that skill & art of using words well. And their words make the souls of their readers stronger, brighter, deeper." ― Ursula K. Le Guin

There is someone very special that I encountered via "Sunday's Best" a few years ago & I was amazed at the depth of her writing when I read some of what she had written.

All I am is all that God created me to be.
All I have is all God created me to give.
All I want is what God wants me to have.
All I shall be remains to be seen ... — Rein Johnson

From the moment I was first blessed via the insight & wisdom of her writing, I knew that she was unique to say the least!

"I CAN do ministry just as I am; All that I am, God's Creation...Uniquely Me!" — Rein Johnson

Here is what Rein Johnson wrote on her website as she promotes a book she wrote that is now available to bless multitudes of people!

Family,

I am pleased to share with you a very important book that God has blessed me to author, "I Am Not Garbage," which is divinely appointed and assigned to break into the enemy's territory and dismantle the stronghold of abuse and the pain of the past through what God has given me as the "gospel of transformation." Did you know that 4 in 5 adults have suffered some sort of traumatic form of abuse from sexual to physical? If you consider how many people we church with alone, the statistics are outright devastating! It may be you or four other people sitting right next to you on a pew, and largely issues of this kind are going completely unnoticed and unaddressed in the church. I need to get this work into those hands and into your hands as an aide to begin to deal with issues of this kind.

I have to be honest, At the time I was commanded to walk off my job and write this book, I didn't want to do it. I had no problem sharing my testimony, but to write it all down made it all so visibly permanent. I didn't want to be that exposed. I didn't want my family members that exposed, and I preferred the mask of being well put together with my deepest darkest sins and secrets neatly tucked away in the recesses of my mind. God; however, said not so. As I wrote, I cannot even begin to describe the overwhelming transformation that occurred as the words were written by divine inspiration without outline or plan in just two months. The testimonies of those that read early excerpts and those of the editors have expressed the same overwhelming experiences of transformation, and needless to say, the enemy has done all he can do to try to keep this book off the shelves. I have suffered much in the spiritual realm, but I will spread this message of hope, healing, and transformation for a lifetime and pray this work will carry on long after I am gone.

This book is a very raw and real depiction of everything I have suffered including prostitution at 4 years of age, molestation, rape, physical abuse, abortion, bulimia, abandonment, desperate dating, infidelity and encounters with the other woman, BUT the story does not end there. The reader will be taken on a journey through my experiences, but will end up with me in the depths of transformation as they will be forced to look at and deal with their own "stuff." The chapters are not only candid recollections of life as I knew it, but they include spiritual reflections that challenge perceptions and walk the reader into transformation and prayer.

This book is going to change so many lives, and it's so important that I receive your help in spreading the word about it and getting it out to the masses. — Rein Johnson

"I Am Not Garbage: My Life's Journey ..." was not only written from Rein's heart & soul but also from the direction of the HOLY SPIRIT!

May we all have the courage to take the steps of faith that the LORD desires us to take.

"Take the first step in faith.
You don't have to see the whole staircase.
Just take the first step." — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

May your journey & my journey be filled with strength from people who have gone before us & helped to lighten our loads.

"We are not made for the mountains, for sunrises, or for the other beautiful attractions in life ― those are simply intended to be moments of inspiration. We are made for the valley & the ordinary things of life & that is where we have to prove our stamina & strength." ― Oswald Chambers
